Bran and Toph met on the Marsiva, and through their bickering and teasing somehow became fast friends. He agreed to transfer onto the Blue Fish in part because she was on the crew. Toph would actually punch faces for him, and even though she doesn't always mesh with his siblings, she tries. At this point, he loves and trusts her as family. She doesn't let her blindness stop her from doing anything, and that's an inspiration to Bran as he comes to accept that he may never walk normally again. He knows Toph would never let him give him up himself.
